Slow News Month

It's been a while since some really substantive, interesting edu-news broke. I feel like the budget cuts have really put a lot of the people in our community into a relative crisis mode. It's kind of sad.

This is one of those times when I look up into the vast world of that is the NYC Education system and am utterly terrified. The problems we face are daunting indeed.

Our classes are too big, our schools too segregated. We get way to little funding for the the large size of our student body. We are tested and tested and tested and get too much homework or too little depending on who you talk to.

I don't know how yet. But what we need is a shift in the way we look at our schools and think about education in general.
